New characters from Rogue One

Excited about the first ever stand-alone Star Wars movie?

Yes, Rogue One:A Star Wars Story is out December 16th!

Word on the street is you’ll be able to catch the final trailer when Doctor Strange opens in UK cinemas later this month on October 25.

But while you wait for the trailer check out these two awesome new characters revealed by recent life-size standees:

First we have Moroff (and doesn’t he look just like a baby Wampa).

Maybe Chewie got lucky with a Wampa one day! 🙂

The next character is another new Astromech droid. Its name is R2-BHD:

Felicity Jones (Jyn) and Diego Luna (Captain Cassian Andor), and its terrifying new villain, Director Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn).

Jones’s antihero Jyn is a rebel without a cause (with a gun belt “inspired by Han Solo”), and that’s exactly the kind of attitude the struggling Rebellion needs. She’s ultimately tasked with a mission from Mon Mothma: Steal the Galactic Empire’s plans for their shiny new weapon of mass destruction, the Death Star. But just as Rogue One is a different kind of Star Wars film, Jyn is a different kind of hero. Unlike heroes Luke Skywalker and Rey, Jyn has had a “very full life” before we meet her inRogue One.

Similarly, Mendelsohn’s big bad is a different kind of Imperial villain. “He is smarter, I think, than most of the others,” the actor said after making a grand entrance, dressed in Krennic’s Imperial duds and flanked by a mini-army of Shadowtroopers. “He’s more inventive. He’s perhaps a little sexier that some of them — not as sexy as some of the others.”

Of course, Jyn won’t be alone in her endeavor. She’ll be joined by a group of resistance fighters. Captain Cassian Andor, her right-hand man, works intelligence for the Rebellion. Luna admits that there’s “friction” and “issues” among the team but that Cassian keeps them together. His best friend is a curmudgeonly Imperial droid that he’s reprogrammed named K-2SO (voiced by Alan Tudyk).

Sotheby’s auction house in London held a Star Wars only auction last December.

The collection owned by Japanese designer Nigo included a rare Luke Skywalker figure, coins and more than 600 action figures sold for a total of $500,000.

“As a designer, I have always been inspired by ‘Star Wars,'” Nigo said in a statement. “I am honored to be launching this sale and hope that it will bring excitement to ‘Star Wars’ fans around the world.”

A Star Wars fan had his Star Wars collection stolen from his house in the UK while on holiday.

The collection was worth an estimated £50,000 ($85,000) and included hundreds of action figures and vehicles.

Of note was a Darth Vader model and a rare Yoda Force FX lightsaber.

The owner of the collection said “It has been absolutely awful. Not only has the collection been stolen, but I am now finding myself looking into my friends and members of my family”

The collection was stored in a hidden area in the loft of the house, so casual burglars would not have known the collection was there.

Star Wars Episode VIII Production Teaser!

In a surprise move Lucasfilm and Disney have announced that principle photography has begun by way of a short teaser showing a now familiar scene.

The currently unnamed Star Wars Episode VIII, cleverly pokes fun at the end of Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens in its teaser video.

A statement on the Star Wars youtube channel states:

Cameras roll for the next chapter of the Star Wars saga, written and directed by Rian Johnson.

Episode VIII director Rian Johnson will continue the storyline introduced in Episode VII welcoming back cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.

New to the cast of Episode 8 include Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.

J.J. Abrams hasn’t now dropped Star Wars, he will be sharing Executive Production duties with Jason McGatlin and Tom Karnowski.

Rey took her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will continue her epic journey with Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode VIII, which began principal photography at Pinewood Studios in London on February 15, 2016.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.

Could Kylo Ren and Rey be Luke’s kids?

Fan are still busy trying to work out the plot for The Force Awakens but one has a convincing theory for Kylo Ren and Rey being siblings…

When discussing Star Wars Episode 7 The Force Awakens nearly all fans are convinced that Rey is Luke Skywalker’s daughter but here is a convincing case that Rey isn’t the only child of the Jedi Master.

It could be possible that Ben, aka Kylo Ren isn’t Han and Leia’s son at all, but actually uncle Luke is his real father.

Now unlike Han and Leia’s kids in the Expanded Universe, Kylo and Rey can’t be twins because their age gap is too great, but they could be siblings separated like Leia and Luke were not knowing the other existed.

Kylo Ren and Rey as siblings?
Kylo Ren and Rey as siblings?

Luke could have possibly handed over Kylo to Han and Leia for safekeeping, because Luke was too famous to be able to raise him himself. This would also explain why his son is Ben, as Luke was a close to Obi-Wan Kenobi, unlike Leia or Han who hardly knew him.

And if Ben Solo discovered the truth, he’d be pretty messed up right, as Luke was when he found out his father. That would explain Kylo Ren’s mental issues and anger-management problems!

“Your son is dead” Kylo tells Han Solo. “He was weak and foolish, like his father”. But what if he was talking about Luke his father?

But what about Rey?

“Rey is able to fight back against Kylo Ren, and can even sense he is afraid of not being like Darth Vader (Like Leia sensing Luke was in danger). Perhaps when Kylo Ren says “I will finish what you started, grandfather” he means he will succeed in getting the next Skywalker in line to rule the galaxy with him. Where Vader failed in getting Luke to join him, Kylo Ren will succeed in getting Rey to join him, bringing balance to the Force.”.

What a shame Episode VIII has been delayed so we will have to wait longer for the truth!

Hilarious Outtakes From SNLs Kylo Ren Undercover Boss Sketch

When Adam Driver hosted Saturday Night Live featuring a funny sketch about Kylo Ren doing Undercover Boss, much hilarity ensued and more Kylo Ren fans were won over.

Kylo Ren went undercover to find out what his employees thought about him that worked on the Starkiller base.

Now a behind the scenes clip has emerged showing very funny clips of outtakes that are possibly even better than the originals.

In other Adam Driver news, he has also been accused of looking like someone’s cat!

What might have happened in Episode VII The Force Awakens?

Every man and his dog are talking about Star Wars The Force Awakens, even your grandmother and auntie are talking about it (probably). But your aunties facebook rants might have been very different if some of the original ideas had made it into the finished movie.

Here are some of the best of those ideas that didn’t quite make it…

POE DAMERON DIES!
POE DAMERON DIES!

Poe Dameron gets killed!

Oscar Isaac’s hotshot X-Wing pilot is one of the high points of The Force Awakens, bringing energy and verve to every one of the few scenes he’s in. Which is pretty good work for a dead man. Yes, in early drafts of the script, Poe Dameron was slated to die in that TIE Fighter crash on Jakku. But J.J. Abrams decided at the last minute to change things up and keep Dameron around. And thank goodness. We can’t really imagine Episode VII without him.

LUKE ACTUALLY DOES SOMETHING!
LUKE ACTUALLY DOES SOMETHING!

Luke does more than stare at Rey!

The big mystery leading into the release of The Force Awakens was just what role Luke Skywalker would play, if he played any at all. And the answer turned out to be: pretty much none. Dude was barely in the film. But while Luke is just a MacGuffin in the finished product, he had a far bigger role during the film’s planning stages. Originally, you see, Luke himself was going to discover Rey on Jakku, and the two of them were going to travel together in search of Jedi artifacts for the rest of the film. But no. Guess we just can’t have nice things.

EVERYONE IS A TEENAGER!
EVERYONE IS A TEENAGER!

Every character is a teenager!

When George Lucas sold the Star Wars rights to Disney, he also sent along his top secret plans for the new trilogy. Exactly what madness he concocted, nobody is sure, as only a handful of Disney Illuminati have seen his treatment. But we do know one thing about Lucas’s original plans for Episode VII: the main characters were all going to be teenagers. Would Episode VII have the same kick if it was essentially Harry Potter in Space? For better or worse, we’ll never know.

Wedge Antilles Rejects Episode 7
Wedge Antilles Rejects Episode 7

Wedge leads the attack on Starkiller!

The big attack scene on Starkiller Base at the end of The Force Awakens is pretty sweet, with Poe Dameron leading the X-Wing squadron to victory. But the original plan would have made us all collectively crap our pants, because the squadron was going to be headed by Red Two himself, Wedge Antilles! Yes, actor Denis Lawson, who played Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars trilogy, was actually invited to return and reprise his role in The Force Awakens. However, Lawson passed on the chance, as he wanted Wedge to have an even bigger role in the film than that. We’re with you, buddy. Wedge forever!

General Leia
General Leia

General Leia unleashes a superweapon!

It sounds like some kind of wrestling move: “General Leia unleashes a vicious Steamroller from the top rope!” But the truth is even cooler, because in early versions of the script, Leia had a much larger role in the film: she was coordinating the Rebellion’s use of their own giant super-weapon, the Steamroller, to counteract the First Order’s Starkiller Base. Instead, we only get a couple way too brief scenes of Leia moping about her son being a jerkwad—and not nearly enough scenes showing her steamrolling the enemy. Next time, Disney. You owe us.

THE DEATH STAR RETURNS…UNDERWATER!
THE DEATH STAR RETURNS…UNDERWATER!

Death Star wreck explored!

Of course, some of the original plan to have our heroes searching for artifacts from the classic trilogy is still in the film, with Vader’s helmet and Luke’s lightsaber playing key roles. But there was originally a much bigger artifact at the center of the plot—literally much bigger. Yes, it’s the Death Star. Apparently there was a whole sequence with Luke and Rey exploring the wreckage of the destroyed Death Star, which had come to rest at the bottom of an alien ocean. So much for it being fully operational.

MAZ KANATA: ACTION HERO!
MAZ KANATA: ACTION HERO!

Maz Kanata steals Kylo’s lightsaber!

Speaking of Luke’s lightsaber, one plot point that gets a convenient Jedi hand wave instead of an actual explanation is exactly how space pirate Maz Kanata ends up with it in her storage shed. Once upon a time, though, Kanata was slated to have a much larger role, with a whole action sequence devoted to her stealing the lightsaber from Kylo Ren and the First Order. That would have been sweet. But, hey, whatever. Sitting around a bar making googly eyes at strangers is really impressive, too.

George Lucas Wont Need To Direct Episode 9 Implies Colin Trevorrow

Colin Trevorrow has responded to a petition started a few weeks ago by some Star Wars fans to bring George Lucas back to direct Episode IX.

The petition has just over 24,000 signatures at the time of writing, from fans bemoaning that The Force Awakens is A New Hope “rip-off” and showed a lack of creativity.

Disney might have an issue with Lucas directing, because less than a month ago Lucas accused Disney of being “White Slavers” and also because Colin Trevorrow the director of Jurassic World has already been signed up to direct.

Fortunately for a certain section of fans, Trevorrow seems quite relaxed about the whole thing and has said to Entertainment Tonight that he wants to channel the “raw creativity” of Lucas into the film.

Colin Trevorrow
Colin Trevorrow

“It’s funny, I saw that (the petition), and it was on a day where I was at LucasFilm giving this big speech to everyone about how we want to channel the invention and just the raw creativity and the boldness that George brought to these films and not being afraid that we’re going to embarrass ourselves by doing something that might be crazy,”

“When George Lucas made Star Wars, a lot of people thought it was crazy. When you try to pitch what that movie’s about – if you’ve never heard of Star Wars before, you say, ‘Here’s a character. His father’s part robot, but he can also do magic. And there’s a guy who can fly in a spaceship. He’s got a dog for a friend!’ – it sounds insane.”

“But it’s the greatest story ever told. I just want to embrace that kind of invention and creativity that he brought to it.”

This is great news for fans hoping for something more imaginative for the final installment of the sequel trilogy.

JJ Abrams has already responded to claims his Star Wars contribution was a rip-off.

Meanwhile, we can now look forward to Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII which he has currently rewritten some of the script and pushed back filming a month.

Episode VIII Script Getting A Rewrite For Star Wars Main Characters?

Possible rewrite to fit in Asian character and a focus on the Star Wars main characters.

Rian Johnson must be a busy man right now.

He was brought on board by Lucasfilm well before The Force Awakens hit theaters so he had plenty of time to mold the overall story for Episodes 8 and 9.

However, according to podcast Meet the Movie Press there has been a slight change of plan tells The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider:

Last week we mentioned Bel Powely and Gina Rodriguez. Now I heard Gina didn’t get it. Now I am told Episode VIII has been pushed about a month. Rian Johnson is going to do another rewrite, and I heard an Asian actress got the role Bel and Gina were up for. But I don’t know if the Bel Powely thing will work out.

I said before there were two young female roles, now I actually heard that the rewrite will make these roles smaller. They want to get to know better the main characters they already have. So the new rewrite is shrinking the new roles in order to spend more time with Rey, Poe and so on.

Although just a rumour for now, this news does make sense.

The Force Awakens is unlikely to beat Avatar globally, because it didn’t do so well in Asia where Star Wars is less known. But will adding an Asian character help the cause?

The Force Awakens Main Characters
The Force Awakens Main Characters

Secondly, fans are expecting more of the Star Wars main characters introduced in The Force Awakens and especially so Luke Skywalker who made a very brief appearance.

So a rewrite of the script is to focus on the main characters and less on the new characters, who if popular can always be fleshed out later in Episode IX.

This is good new for fans that Disney is not rushing into Episode 8 and is carefully considering the response to Episode 7.

Force Awakens Unlikely To Take Avatar’s Crown

According to The Hollywood Reporter, box office record-breaking The Force Awakens is unlikely to beat Avatar globally.

Update (27th Feb 2016) : It looks like The Force Awakens has indeed settled into third place globally in the all-time rankings. Current global takings according to Box Office Mojo are $2,041 Million, just under $150 Million short of Titanic at second place. As Star Wars Episode 7’s run is almost over and talk of the Blu-ray has already begun, it is unlikely TFA will overtake Titanic globally.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been at the cinema less than a month but has already more than revived the sci-fi franchise with a record-breaking $1.75 billion box-office haul. Disney and Lucasfilm’s seventh chapter in the space-opera saga has quickly notched the third-highest box-office gross of all time. And it is now on track to sink James Cameron’s 1997 adventure-romance Titanic — which earned $2.19 billion in ticket sales (including $200 million made when the film was re-released in 2012) — for the No. 2 spot.

James Cameron's Titanic
James Cameron’s Titanic

But the Oscar-winning director looks set to maintain bragging rights: The Force Awakens likely won’t topple the $2.79 billion Cameron’s 2009 fantasy Avatar earned to become the world’s top-grossing film. Why? Force isn’t as strong in parts of Asia and Latin America, where Star Warsdoesn’t have the same legacy as it does in North America and more mature markets. It’s also a faster burn, meaning it likely won’t stay in theaters as long as Avatar did.

Domestically, Force Awakens already has shot past Avatar ‘s $760.5 million to become the No. 1 film of all time with more than $815 million in receipts to date. Overseas, analysts say current projections show it will top out at $1.2 billion to $1.4 billion for a payout in the $2.1 billion to $2.3 billion range. (More bullish forecasts say $2.4 billion.) That would include north of $900 million domestically.

Check Availability For PlayStation 4 500GB Console – Star Wars Battlefront Bundle

Star Wars: The Force Awakens made its first billion in a record 12 days and has added another $700 million-plus in an additional 14 days. As in all box-office trajectories, the higher the altitude, the tougher it becomes to rack up sales at the kind of breakneck pace as in the beginning of the run,” says Rentrak’s Paul Dergarabedian.

“No matter what, the film is an absolute, all-out blockbuster without peer in terms of the sheer speed at which it has crossed all of these major box-office milestones. With very few box-office frontiers to conquer, including the $1 billion mark in North America, and a penciled-in reservation in the exclusive $2 billion club, if Force Awakens winds up sandwiched between the two biggest movies of all-time, Avatar and Titanic, no one associated with the film will be singing the Jedi blues. They’ll be celebrating this dream scenario result.”

Avatar, released in late 2009, earned an astounding $2 billion internationally, where it played for months.

A huge question for Force Awakens is China, where it opened Jan. 9 to a record-breaking $53 million. Analysts covering China believe it could ultimately earn $200 million to $300 million in the Middle Kingdom.

Star Wars The Force Awakens
Star Wars The Force Awakens

Even if it doesn’t become the top-grossing film of all time, Wall Street analyst Eric Handler of MKM Partners says Force Awakens is a giant victory for Disney, which paid George Lucas $4 billion for Lucasfilm in order to get its hands on the iconic franchise and hit the restart button.

“It’s been a great month for Disney. You have a movie that is going to gross $2.2 billion or $2.3 billion at the box office and you haven’t even gotten to home entertainment. And then there’s the $600 million in consumer products revenue. And they are building Star Wars Land at Disneyland,” Handler says. “It’s fueling so much within the Disney eco-structure.

Handler says Force Awakens is already generating huge interest in spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which hits theaters Dec. 16. Star Wars: Episode VIII opens a little more than five months later on May 26.

Star Wars mania,” he adds, “is running wild.”
